Alumina (Al₂O₃) is the most widely used engineering ceramic in precision manufacturing. It earns that position by balancing mechanical hardness, electrical insulation and chemical resistance at a cost point that makes it viable for production volumes rather than just prototypes.
In its 99.5–99.8% purity grades alumina retains useful strength up to 1500–1700 °C, resists attack from most acids, alkalis and organic solvents, and can be metallised for brazed assemblies. These properties put it inside pumps, valves, seals, insulators and wear parts across semiconductor equipment, medical devices, chemical processing and general industrial machinery.
